ANATHAS MADE
SANATHAS…
Bhagawan exhorts us to fill our hearts with pure selfless
love and transmute that love into acts of service to our brethren
in a spirit of dedication and, above all, with the clear understanding
that all that is being done is unto ourselves. For, as He
points out, there is none to be called ‘another’.
Setting an ideal example Himself, Bhagawan, moved by the saddening
news of a mother having committed suicide by consuming poison
after poisoning her three children as she could not combat
the abject poverty they found themselves in, declared that
He would provide food, shelter and clothing to all such destitute
children besides educating them to be self-reliant.
Sai Sankalpa (resolve) is Vajra Sankalpa. Action followed
with lightning speed. To begin with, construction began for
two-room tenements to house the first come orphans and destitutes
converting His own orchard into a housing colony. Sixty children
from such families were selected from Bukkapatnam, Kothacheruvu
and Puttaparthi Mandals and were adopted under the Sri Sathya
Sai Deenajanoddharana Pathakam Project. They are receiving
school education under the loving care of Bhagawan. Not only
that; a sum of one lakh rupees has been deposited in the name
of each child to meet its needs as and when it came of age.
Every week, on Thursdays, they are brought to the Presence
for Divine Darshan of the Universal Mother. It is a sight
to see how the Lord looks Love at them, His charming smile
drizzling compassion. None can call them ‘anathas’
anymore as the One ‘A’natha has made them all
‘Sa’nathas.
Love that transformed…..
Last Sunday, 20th June 2004 was a red letter day for these
lucky children for that was the day they had their maiden
programme in the Divine Presence of Bhagawan. The programme
started with an ‘intro’ given by students from
Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Prasanthi Nilayam
campus explaining how the project came into being, how these
children are transformed by Bhagawan’s Love, how they
all secured distinction in the recent examinations….all
were moved including Bhagawan.
The boys started with a Sai Katha in the tune of the very
pouplar Rama Katha, “Sree Ramuni Charitamunu..”.
Four boys were compeering the show. They kept expressing their
joy and happiness at all that had been bestowed upon them.
One after another they shared their earlier life experiences,
how they struggled without proper food, without parents, and
how it all changed with the coming of compassionate Bhagawan
into their lives.
Most boys never knew one alphabet of English two years back.
Now most of them speak fluent English. One boy stood in front
of Bhagawan and gave a scholarly talk for ten minutes expressing
their gratitude to Bhagawan.
Yet another boy narrated a poignant story. His mother had
passed away when he was very young. He was in distress at
the loss of his mother that he kept crying for days together.
This affected his throat and he developed throat cancer and
could not speak anymore. After coming to Bhagawan, Swami cancelled
his cancer and today amidst tears of gratitude he spoke in
front of Bhagawan about his own experience.
Another boy enacted his own past life. He
was an orphan and his only companions were three goats whom
he would take for grazing every day. He had no one to talk
to; no one to share his joys and sorrows until he came into
Bhagawan’s fold.
In another case, a child was one among three sons. The mother
was a widow and could hardly make both ends meet. Every day,
the children would go to bed without food and no proper clothes
to wear. Now he is so happy to see so much of food and good
clothes!! …Above all the Love of Swami which surpasses
any physical Mother’s Love.
As these skits were being enacted there were hardly any eyes
that were not moist.
Another boy shared his story. He was very
poor at Mathematics. After his seventh class he came to Swami
and this year he had to write his tenth exam. Swami instilled
courage and confidence in him that he did very well and scored
97 out of 100 in the subject. All the boys who appeared for
the tenth exams passed with distinction. There were no failures.
They spoke about the sacred day when Swami came to their home
at DJP and encouraged them to write their exams with loving
words of advice asking them not to worry as He was there all
around them, in them, behind and front of them. He had also
materialized Vibhuti Prasadam for all of them.
The programme came to an end with the rendering
of a beautiful song. The song included a stotram with chantings
of Rudram and Chamakam in between. Bhagawan enjoyed the song
keeping the beat with hand. Finally, all boys went in groups
and took photographs with Bhagawan.
Prasadam was distributed to all the children
and Mangala Arathi was offered to Bhagawan in the end.
