As Educator
Baba is a great Educator and World Teacher.
Revealing His identity He declared on Mahashivaratri day of
1970:
Na ham manushyo
Na cha deva yakshah
Na Brahmachari na grahi vanastha
Na Brahmana Kshatriya Vaishya Sudra
Aham Sathyabodhakah
Sathyam Sivam Sundaram
That is, I am not a human being nor a god
or a superman. I am neither a brahmachari, a householder nor
a vanaprastha; nor am I a Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaisya nor a
Sudra. I am the Teacher of Truth; I am Truth, Goodness and
Beauty.
The teacher of Truth can be Truth alone.
And Bhagawan is Truth personified. This Truth is the core
of every being. Its nature is Truth, Goodness and Beauty.
Truth is eternal and immutable. Hence man is basically divine
and his nature of truth, goodness and beauty has to be maintained
at all costs. This is the lesson He wants to teach the whole
world.
Baba often reminds us that it is the presence
of this Truth, the Atma in us that gives us a feeling of permanency.
So is the case with the other two aspects. If anyone dares
to say to another that he is not good or he is bad, at-once
he rises in revolt. If one is called a liar something hidden
in him immediately revolts. Because these are not in his original
nature, for he is atma pure and eternal.
Man is endowed with a very powerful instrument,
the mind, which is supposed to take guidance from the intellect
as it possesses the power of discrimination. But, though powerful,
because of its fickle nature the mind remains in the clutches
of senses which drag it to every wanted and unwanted object
through various desires of their tastes. So the power of the
mind goes to bind man to his desires and their fulfilment
instead of helping him to reach the realms of the atma through
the sense of discrimination provided by the intellect. The
result is that man is badly afflicted in his race for fulfilling
the desires. Baba therefore advises to lead a spiritual life
providing satvic food for all the sense organs so that the
mind remains pollution free. Such a mind can take us to the
realm of the spirit which alone is the source of Bliss.
The very first lesson that Baba had taught
the world was to 'meditate in the mind on the feet of the
Guru that can take one across the turbulent sea of samsara'.
In other words constant remembrance of the Lord who alone
is the best Guru can ward off all miseries in life. Baba always
exhorts His devotees, especially students, to keep good company,
i.e. satsangh. 'Sat' means eternal and therefore constant
company of the 'Sat' or the Self which is eternal is implied.
He tells us of Adi Sankara's famous sloka in his Bhaja Govindam
Satsangatwe nissangatwam
Nissangatwe nirmohatwam
Nirmohatwe nischalitatvam
Nischalitatve jiwanmuktih
In other words He advises us to have 'Sarvada,
Sarvakaleshu, Sarvatra Harichintanam' so that the link between
the Atma and the Paramatma which is the source, remains continous
and constant. It is this inseparable, irrevocable and immutable
relationship that is implied in the pithy remark of Bhagawan
Baba that 'I am God, you are also God'. The realisation of
this relationship and its practical application in day to
day life is the lesson He has come to teach us. That is why
while laying down the objective of the Sri Sathya Sai Seva
Organisation emphasis has been given to 'Fatherhood of God
and brotherhood of Man' and to bring out this awareness by
awakening the divinity in man. |
